The objectives of our club are quite simply to provide sport for all within the context of athletics. This includes track and field, cross-country and road running. The club has developed a strong tradition in track and field athletics. On club nights we pride ourselves on providing for safe participation in fully supervised groups set in a socially enjoyable environment. The club enjoys considerable success and has goals to continue to do so by encouraging all athletes to achieve their full potential in competition and to represent their club and beyond with pride. The emphasis of our club is that of enjoyment. We are a serious athletics club where competition is concerned, but we also like to stress the social aspect of club membership which is a very important feature of Deeside AAC. We feel that happiness and good socialising blended with quality training breeds success. This has certainly worked in the past and, we trust, will continue into the future. Our training sessions reflect this attitude. The motto of UK Athletics is 'From Fun to Fulfilment' and Deeside AAC wholly subscribes to this philosophy. |

Graded Coaching StaffThe athletes at our club are supported by a broad range of coaches across many disciplines. We strive to keep our coaches up to date in all areas of coach education including 'child protection' and other key areas. We encourage all of our coaches to gain qualification at higher levels where appropriate. Our graded coaches and their current activities are listed below. |

Graded OfficialsIn terms of graded officials our club is the envy of many. The combined experience and qualifications we possess are a tremendous asset and have been built up over many years to the extent that very often our club provides more officials than any other club for away meetings as well as home meetings! Very often this means that without us meetings would possibly not have gone ahead. Our Officials operate at the highest level including National Championships and International Events as well as during most weekends in the season at local and regional league meetings. |

The Early YearsDeeside Amateur Athletic Club was founded in 1974 by Tudor and Ann Williams who, together with a handful of talented local athletes decided to take advantage of the cinder track facilities of Kelsterton College, Connah's Quay and create an athletic club. Tudor sadly died in the late 1980's. The early years of the club were formative, but soon Deeside A.A.C. developed into a team which was capable of competing with the best teams in the country. Our Club's list of Honours reflects this Since 1974 the club has grown steadily with many new faces now helping to run the club. A new generation of athletes now competes for the club all year round in a host of competitions and their endeavors will continue to be reported on this website. The Facilities the club has to offer are now of international standard - a long way from those early days of a cinder track and a wooden hut! How the New Stadium was wonDeeside Amateur Athletics Club is a forward-looking athletics club and we are always looking at ways of improving conditions for our athletes. For six years from 1991 our club tried desperately to upgrade our facilities at Deeside College to an all-weather 8-lane track. Our previous cinder track had been steadily declining in it's state of repair and had reached the stage where it was dangerous to train on. But, thanks to the Sports Council for Wales, the National Lottery, and an incredible amount of human endeavour from within the club, particularly by Sue Sayer, our dreams were finally realised, and plans for a new stadium and all-weather international-standard track were set in motion in 1997. The full stadium became operational just in time for us to host the 1998 Welsh Schools Finals which were a remarkable success and a tremendous way for the new facilities to prove themselves worthy of hosting meetings of a high quality. Our grant from Sportlot of just over half a million pounds was swelled by grants from various organisations, including the Football Association of Wales, as Connah's Quay Nomads, the local football team, share the stadium with us. |
